Blog EntryMy Favorite Kabob Places (Arlington and Beyond)Jan 29, '06 5:41 PM
for everyone

#1: Kabob Bazaar

Style: Iranian

At lunch, order at the counter and eat at table.  Table service for dinner.  A very pleasant atmosphere, you can take visitors here without first explaining away the decor.  If you like Moby Dick, you'll like Kabob Bazaar better.

Location: Clarendon (Arlington, VA)

Tasty non-kabob items: Combo platter w/ hummus, tabbouleh, and falafel.  Swordfish.

Don't miss: The dome over where you stand in line.  You can whisper in one spot, and hear it like a speaker.

#2: Ravi Kabob

Style: Afghan/Paki

Location: Glebe and Pershing (Arlington, VA)

Order at counter, eat at table.  Very divey.

Tasty non-kabob items: Chick Peas

Don't miss: Mike speaking the Urdu w/ the guy behind the counter.

#3: Rice & Kabob

Location: Sterling, VA

Style: Afghan

Order at counter, eat at table.

Tasty non-kabob items:  chicken rollup w/ curried chicken inside.

Don't miss: Actually good kabobs, wayyy out in the 'burbs.

Dis-honorable mentions:  Food Factory (in Ballston) used to be a favorite, but has gone downhill.

To try: Kabob Palace in Crystal City.  This one is always highly rated, along with Ravi Kabob, but we haven't tried it out yet.

I think we have to try Kabab Palace in Crystal City before giving Rice & Kabab the no. 3 spot. Otherwise I cant quibble with the selection.

I've never had the kabobs at East West either, how do they rank?

Oh yes, the place close to my office, quite good but not as good as the first 2. I've only eaten with you once at Rice & Kabob, but think its not as good as East-West.

Rice & Kabob is handicapped because it's in Sterling :-)

There are a few kabob places down here in outh Florida -- none as good as the ones in the Arlington area.

Moby's didn't make the list? I'll definitely have to try Kabob Bazaar...but I think Moby's (Clarendon) deserves an honorable mention! :)

In fairness, I haven't been to the Moby's in Clarendon, just other locations. I do like it though! Ok, an honorable mention :-) But definitely try out Kabob Bazaar!

for the hard-core kababs eater (I'm not one of them) you can't beat the ones you get from a van next to the Leeds train station at 11:30pm after the pub turnout. Rumors are that that there is some lamb in there somewhere... I bet Mike has sampled the dreaded 'donner kebab'.

We have Doner Kebap here. They are a little scary.

Many times after the Pubs closed, there were also the famous Asian naan kababs which one could only digest if you had an iron-clad stomach, or had swallowed a few pints of Bitter!
I couldn't manage the cockles and welks though!!
